Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum
Status of establishing specifications and
setup of contents distribution WG
Since April of 2004, the Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum (53 member companies as of the end of Oct., 2004) has been working to establish technical specifications using three work groups (WGs). Enactment of the specifications is planned for 2005. We are pleased to announce that WG4 "Contents Distribution" was recently organized to accelerate investigation of possible applications for information appliances.
- Our direction for establishing the specifications
A) WG1 "Easy Setup and Operation for Everyone"
Plan to build models of authentication and setup method‚“ for internet connection by device or by usage scene and to release the final draft of the requisition within the Forum in the end of Dec. to request for comments.
B) WG2 "Secure, Simple and Low Cost M2M Real-time Connections"
- An agreement was made to use SIP, IPsec/TLS and UPnP as the bases.
- Technical investigation of both IPv6 and IPv4.
- Plans to study specifications of broadband routers
- Requisition and outline specification were already released within the Forum.
- Plans to release the technical specification draft document within the Forum at the end of Dec.
C) WG3 "User Support Guidelines"
Final drafts of "Guidelines for Terminology" and "Guidelines for Display of Network Connection Information" are planned for internal release to the Forum and request for comments at the end of December.
These specifications (compiled as draft proposals by the Forum) will go through an intellectual property and patent clearance period for each Forum member. The specifications will be enacted early in 2005. For the roadmap, please refer to the attached sheet.
- The "Contents Distribution" Work Group Setup
The goal of this WG is to enable users to collect various contents using information appliances via broadband communication in "Simple, Secure and Easy" ways. Its activities will include the definition of contents distribution models, technology evaluation and verification, and collaboration with related industry groups. Though the scope of investigation of this WG is expected to be extremely large, the first document is planned for release in June 2005. Please refer to the attachment for details.
