Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum
UOPF Makes a New Start to Promote Outcomes
Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum (UOPF) has been working to establish an open common standard that provides user-friendly, easy, and safe information appliance powered by broadband regardless of the specific ISP or consumer-electronics manufacturer. UOPF has released outcomes, such as technical specifications and reference guides, brought about by the effort. After we at UOPF extended our activities in 2006, we achieved the desired objectives for 30 outcomes (22 technical specifications and 8 reference guides), and we have released the outcomes at the forum home page:

Any corporate body or individual can apply for information on the official site.
As the result of discussions about future directions in the forum, the latest UOPF general meeting (April 19, 2007) approved the extension of forum activities for another two years (until 2008). The new goals decided at the meeting are the following:
- To provide the outcomes that UOPF has established to each company so that each can promote the outcomes in the business phase*
* Realization of product ideas and services - To release the outcomes so that everyone can use them to work on the Ubiquitous Open Platform
- To establish a new organization** to support the activities mentioned above
** Organization consisting of members who have copyrights of the
outcomes; copyrights are necessary to maintain and manage
the outcomes
As we have already reported, in conjunction with participation in the Home Networking Work Group (HNWG) in the Next Generation IP Network Promotion Forum as an observer, UOPF continues to promote forum outcomes.
